Highlights of UFC 242

The full action-packed weekend of Ultimate Fighting Championship is over in Abu Dhabi, United
Arab Emirates, where many top classed Mixed Martial Artists faced each other in UFC 242 in some thrilling bouts. As expected, Russian fighters stole the show and showed the heart and courage in every fight in an impressive and great fashion. The main event of the UFC 242 proved its worth to be selected as the main one. In the main event, Pound for Pound number two and unbeaten lightweight champion, Khabib fought against the pound for pound number eight and heavy-handed fighter, Dustin Poirier. The fight was full of the technical attacks, toe to toe exchanges, defense, and grappling. In the opening round, Khabib Nurmagomedov was the heavier and was landing strikes at will along with his signature takedowns, in the second round, Dustin managed to land the only combo of 2 shots and it was
all he could do while striking, Khabib outclassed Dustin in all the departments and landed 54 strikes out of 77 thrown, while Poirier threw 57 and could land only 30 strikes; his significant strikes were only 12 while Khabib landed 22 power shots. Khabib missed only one takedown attempt and sent Dustin on the canvas seven times; Khabib was dusting the ring with Dustin.
Dustin Poirier was not brave enough to attempt any sort of takedown against the king of grappling. Dustin had a chance of neck chock when he caught Khabib under his arm, but Khabib “The Eagle” was too good to get rid of the best moment of Dustin, Khabib easily neutralized and nullified this attack and came back stronger and forced Poirier to quit in the third round, the first submission attempt was not successful while the second was enough for Dustin and he tapped out like Conor McGregor and could not last long against the future GOAT; Khabib The Eagle.
In the Co-main event, Edson Barboza 20-8-0 faced Paul Felder 17-4-0, although, Barboza was busier and accurate strikes landing fighter in all the five rounds but Paul was declared as the winner, Barboza out-landed Felder in total strikes; 77 landed while 133 thrown with the percentage of 57.9 while Paul Felder landed 43.1% of total threw strikes. Barboza landed 60 out of 144 (52.6%) significant strikes along with a takedown while Paul’s power shot percentage was 36.4 only.


In another fight, Islam Makhachev (18-1-0) won a unanimous decision against the lightweight contender Davi Roms (10-3-0). Makhachev scored a knockdown along with a devastating
beating of the five rounds with a total of 88 landed strikes; 43 of which were power shots. Davi could land only 7 power strikes and his total landed shots were 27 only.


The heavyweight fighter Curtis Blaydes (12-2-0-1) knocked Shamil Abdurakhimov (20-5-0) out in the second round; Curtis scored 5 out of 5 takedowns and landed 25 power strikes while Shamil could land only 3 strikes in both the rounds.
In the opening fight, the lightweight contender Carlos Diego Ferreira (16-2-0) defeated Mairbek Taisumov (27-6-0) after a battle of the three rounds. Mairbek landed 51 power shots while Carlos landed 109. Both the fighters attempted two takedowns but none was successful.

 Khabib exchanged the shirt with Dustin Poirier and hugged him while the opponent was crying; he also promised to help out the NGO of Dustin with all these good gestures, Khabib demonstrated that he gives respect to those who deserve this. Like his previous fight, Khabib again jumped out of the ring, but this time to celebrate his victory along with his father and Dana White.
